Born in Scotland, and currently working in East London, installation artist Lee Borthwick's philosophy is retaining purity in her designs. Her process is informed by her studies in Finland, where she found peace and contemplation in a country of lakes, forests and vast, solitary spaces. Through her use of ash and hazel timber, bonzai wire, and mirrored steel, she combines her love of wild landscapes with organic materials and hand construction techniques to create works that provide a tactile, reflective and poetic experience for the viewer.
Lee studied textile design at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, Scotland, as well as Turku Polytechnic in Finland, and holds an MA degree in constructed textiles from Scotland’s Royal College of Art.
